This trip combines the best of the Andean world: an exciting day of trekking along the historic Inca Trail, you will visit impressive archaeological sites such as: Chachabamba, Wiñaywayna, Intipata, and Inti Punku (Sun Gate) from where you will appreciate the first views of the impressive Machupicchu. You will have a night’s rest in a cozy hotel in Aguas Calientes.

The next day, you will experience the highlight with a guided visit to the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu, where history and nature intertwine in perfect harmony. A short, comfortable and emotion-filled experience that will connect you with the magic of the Incas and the breathtaking landscapes of the Andes, the Short Inca Trail awaits you to transform your trip into an unforgettable memory!

  • Bus down to Aguas Calientes on the second day (You can buy the ticket if you wish US$ 12. Or walk back down the hill takes 45 minutes and you will have a complete experience).

IMPORTANT: The first day of this trek includes a box lunch (cold lunch) which usually consists of a hearty sandwich, fruit and some cookies. As part of our commitment to ecological sustainability, your box lunch comes in a specially designed reusable cloth bag, which you can keep at the end of your tour or return to your tour guide to be recycled. Please note that you will need to bring your own box lunch during the hike. The bags are ideal to be placed inside or on top of a backpack and weigh no more than two kilos when full (OPTIONAL CONSIDER IT).

 

Summary Itinerary

  • The short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 2 Days 1 Night tour starts from the pick up at your hotel or hostel (4:00am approx.) We will travel for an hour and a half to Ollantaytambo where we will make a stop for breakfast (not included in the tour price).

  • After our stop we will drive you to the train station where you will board the train from Ollantaytambo train station to Km 104 (start of our trek). The train ride lasts an hour and a half, in this journey you will be able to appreciate beautiful landscapes and different ecosystems.

  • When you reach km 104 and then cross a suspension bridge to reach the checkpoint, you must present your passport or document with which you made your reservation.

  • At the end of the respective controls we will start with the hike uphill for 4 hours until we reach the Inca Wiñaywayna site which in Quechua means (forever young) Wiñaywayna has an altitude of 2680 meters above sea level and is considered one of the most attractive sites of this tour. After your guided tour we will stop for our box lunch or snack.

  • After recharging our energy we will continue our hike for an hour and a half until we reach the Intipunku (Sun Gate) where you can enjoy the first panoramic views of Machu Picchu.

  • Finally we will continue walking along the last section of the Inca Trail until we reach the place where you can take the classic photo (postcard photo) with the ancient citadel.

  • After this short break, we will descend to the main entrance, here we will board the bus that will take us to Aguas Calientes for the night.

  • Once we arrive in Aguas Calientes, you will have some time to relax at the hotel before your dinner and then plan the tour in the citadel on the last day of the tour.

  • On the second day you can enjoy and get to know Machu Picchu to the fullest and you can do it in two ways

  • 1). You can walk up for an hour and a half from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu through a path with stairs.
  • 2) You can take the bus for about 25 minutes to Machu Picchu.
  • If you are interested in seeing the sunrise in this ancient Inca city, you will have to get up very early to go to the bus station where you will have to wait for the first buses to Machu Picchu;
  • Once you have arrived at Machu Picchu, you will have a 2 hour guided tour of this historical site.
  • After the guided tour the guide will give you your train tickets for your return trip to Cusco.
  • After your visit to Machu Picchu, we return to the town of Aguas Calientes for lunch, you will find many restaurants and you can choose the one that suits you best.
  • After lunch you will have to go to the train station and board the train to Ollantaytambo station, there the transport will be waiting for you with your name and you will be transferred to the city of Cusco, the trip takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes.
