Itinerario Detallado
To start our tour to Moray and Salinas de Maras, we will pick you up at your hotel at 08:30 am. approx. and then we will go in our transport to Moray and Salineras de Maras, on our way you will see beautiful Andean landscapes surrounded by trees and wildlife.
First we will visit the archaeological center of MORAY which is located 38 km. from the city of Cusco, MORAY is considered as an Inca agricultural laboratory, built in the form of rings formed specifically by 4 muyus or circles, which are platforms in concentric form, the deepest is 80 meters of depression, having the lowest platform of 36 meters in diameter. Within the platforms, the temperature variations range from 0.5 to 1.5 °c per platform, which can reproduce up to 20 different types of microclimates, it is said that the purpose of this archaeological center was the sowing of products that did not grow in this area.
Next, we will visit the Maras salt mines, as their name indicates, they are salt mines formed by about 3,000 small ponds, producing each pond approximately between 50 to 80 kilos of salt per season, it is said that they were used in the time of the Incas to supply this mineral to all of Cusco and its surroundings. These wells are irrigated by a subway salt water spring, this process is completely natural and lasts almost two months for a growing season, the salt of Maras is very sought after and the highest quality is the pink mineral salt, this mineral also has medicinal properties, so do not forget to buy them during our journey, as there are different products made from this salt.
Definitely, these two places have a lot of history and interesting facts that our guide will be telling you on the way. After visiting and touring these spectacular sites, we will stop in CHINCHERO, a wonderful place where you can still feel and see the Inca culture as it was in the past. It has an incomparable square seated on what was an Inca palace, with a typical Sunday fair where ancient marketing practices are still performed and where you can see people with the typical dress of their ancestors. Finally, our transportation will pick us up and we will return to the city of Cusco, where our tour ends at approximately 14:00 hours, culminating our tour to Moray and the salt mines of Maras.
